smartEQ

August 7th, 2010 by Elaine

One of the first projects we did as a collaborative was a user interface project for a new GarageBand plug in. Two Quite Strong members, Elaine and Victoria, teamed up to design an easy-to-use interface that creates EQs by allowing the user to sample different treatments and rate them. It was inspired by old sound equipment and designed with a modern twist.

In the words of our client, smartEQ is a novel way to interact with an audio equalizer, perhaps the most common tool used in audio production. Instead of directly adjusting esoteric processing parameters, the user simply rates the extent to which each of a small number of example settings capture the sound that they are looking for. smartEQ then uses these ratings to determine what is the optimal setting for the user. smartEQ is an audio plug-in that will be available in VST, AU, and RTAS for both Mac and Windows platforms.
