I am an ex-school teacher now working in the administrative side of academia who would have gone insane years ago were it not for dabbling in artsy pursuits.
I work with anything I can get my hands on, but my main focus is designing/sewing handbags, lampworking and fusing glass, and paper cutting. Currently my etsy shop is stocked with bags, but the shop blog discusses my other pursuits as well: julievisiondesigns.blogspot.com. I love doing personalized work and work for special occasions.
Words of advice
I am not sure how great a source of wisdom I am, but one thing I can offer is: Try Everything. I’ve tried countless crafting adventures that failed miserably just to find the ones that I can do well and that make me happy. Walk into your career and your art unafraid. I can’t say I’ve got my career or my craft totally figured out yet, but I know that keeping both in my life is what will make me stronger as a career woman and as an artist.
Each of my bags gets a personalized name—this one is “The Jack Kelly,” an homage to my nostalgic love of “Newsies”.
Fact: Any woman can pull of a bright, loud bag. This one features a bold and glittery print that screams, “I AM HAVING MORE FUN THAN YOU.”
I love this bag because if you forget your diary, you will still have something sensational to read on the train.
