What I know today will never be as much as I know tomorrow.
In her own words
I’ve always been wired as a visual thinker, but I suppose I’m technically a design strategist. I’ve spent my career thus far consulting in everything from user experience design and research, to brand strategy for start-ups and Fortune 100 companies. For me, the sweet spot is bridging complex business objectives with innovative creative output.
Most recently, my husband and I have started a new creative consultancy called SunSilvestri. We pursue creative endeavors that promote sustainability, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship. I’m also doing letterpress work through my own brand, Camp Paper & Goods.
Words of advice
What I know today will never be as much as I know tomorrow. There are numerous cliched sayings, but they’re all so true. As a female creative, I’ve learned to have a point-of-view. Stand your ground and be able to rationalize your thinking. Be sure to get all of your ideas out on paper, good and bad, then narrow from there.
I carry a notebook with me at all times (sometimes I have several in my bag). All of my sketches and thoughts go into these notebooks…they are my saving grace. I like to refer back to my sketches after a project is done, and oftentimes the final design looks exactly like an initial idea that I had forgotten about!
Also, don’t be afraid to say “no”. I’ve gotten myself into so many jams because I didn’t know how to politely decline. I turned down four fantastic job offers last year, and now I’m running my own creative consultancy. The way I rationalize it is that I had to say “no” to get to this one “yes”.
