I am a recent graduate of the Graphic Design program at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with an interest in everything and a keen interest in typesetting, book design, and exhibition design. I love art history, writing, and art museums. I am currently looking for job opportunities in the great city of Chicago.

Words of advice

Present your work and ideas with confidence! Start conceptualizing early, pick a route, print iterations, and be considerate of the people you are working with. Know when to shut your computer and give yourself a break – a well-rested pair of eyes is invaluable!

In her own words

As a photographer I feel it is my job to create and tell a story for each client. Whether it’s a restaurant, wedding, portrait, or product line etc. Telling your story, or working as a team to develop your story is what makes you shine. I love meeting with clients that come to me with pretty clear ideas of what they are looking for; I listen to their concepts, then design a shoot that not only encompasses what they wanted from the start, but surpasses every expectation they originally had. That’s what I love, and that’s why I make photographs!

Words of advice

One of my all time favorite inspirational quotes…and I have many, is this: “Your intent creates your reality.” I have learned a lot in the short time that I have been working as a creative & business owner and this one quote holds so true. When I want something to happen, I mean really want it to happen, opportunities begin to present themselves. This of course comes from ground work that you have laid in the past to carry you so far. But, I truly believe we live in a magical world and when we put our minds, and hearts to something we can and will make it a reality.

My life has always been an exploration of artistic voice. Whether taking the form of a painting or an illustration, my artwork is a means of communication, a kind of storytelling. I paint and illustrate for all ages. My images are often whimsical, sweet, and myth inspired. I like to bring my audiences to a place full of mystery, a poetic space that fuels the heart.

Words of wisdom

No matter what kind of reception your work gets, stay strong and centered in your own creative vision. It is an amazing gift to be creative, and staying true to ones own voice is a gift to the world. When working with a client, intuit their needs and ask questions, be open to collaborations, and deliver on time.

Moon Goddess / This is an acrylic painting of a Moon Goddess. It was created for an upcoming exhibit for a healing arts program at Hudson Hospital and Clinics in Wisconsin. The curator shared that she loves the moon, and it inspired me to paint this piece. The moon tend to appear often in my work.

Resting / 'Resting', an acrylic painting, was created in response to one of my poems. Trees, roots, earth, are reoccurring themes in my work. In this image, the roots are a metaphor for our connection to the land.

Princess October / 'Princess October' is and acrylic piece created for younger audiences, part of a series of paintings for each month. I love nature, and I like my portrayals of girls to be sassy and powerful, and this is a combination of both.

Collaboration and the ability to group together is one of our most valuable human assets.

I’m a designer, illustrator, artist and writer paying thousands of dollars to live in Canada as a sham immigrant. While I’d rather join AIGA than RGD, travel is in my blood, and this northern corner of the world has been immensely good to me.

I am originally from Florida and also worked in the UK for a time then spent a year on my own projects and freelancing. Now I work at a Toronto hospital and write about design in healthcare. (www.cassiemcdaniel.com/blog) I also write about design for various publications like A List Apart, Smashing Magazine, yada yada.

The world is full of complex challenges and I want better problems to solve. I want to inspire you to want that too.

Words of advice

If you have only a bit of water but need to boil an egg, put more eggs in. The water level will rise, I promise, and the resources you didn’t think you had will materialize. Collaboration and the ability to group together is one of our most valuable human assets. It allows us to make a lot from very little which is altogether inspiring, humbling and magical.

I’m a designer, creater, thinker, and breakfast lover. As a designer, my desire is to create authentic, meaningful work that is both clean and bold. I design with a simple, honest aesthetic. Beyond all that design stuff, I believe in positivity, curiosity, and all things pumpkin. I also believe a strong cup of coffee will get you far in life.

Words of advice

You can’t sit around waiting for something to happen. So, go! Make something beautiful! And remember, we’re all in this together.

In her own words

I’m a Cuban-American artist, designer, teacher, drummer and collector of things. I’ve worked as designer and art director for 11+ years in the music, fashion and publishing industries. In 2006 I relocated from Brooklyn to Chicago to attend the graduate program at The School of the Art Institute. In 2008 I completed an MFA in Visual Communication and a second MFA, in Writing, in 2009. I run a small multi-disciplinary design studio, WINTERBUREAU.

I also run the Neche Collection, a project that documents the objects collected by my grandfather, the stories they tell and the work it inspires.

Words of advice

Figure out what you LOVE to do and make it happen.

I create finely-detailed pen-and-ink drawings primarily of architecture and architectural ornamentation. I thoroughly enjoy working with pen and ink and the satisfaction I feel from the work. Doing what I do has made me a more observant person, truly enjoying my surroundings.

Nike Liberty Collab Retail. Emmulating the flower shop outside Liberty of London where the signature fabric of the shoes came from.

Nike Snowboarding Booth. The product story that was being highlighted was the newest boot, the Vapen - which means "weapon" in Norweigian.
