Take your own advice.

In her own words

I am a sort of jack of all trades when it comes to art, from fibers to sculpture, however at the current moment I am painting abstract landscapes in acrylic and watercolor. My love for the media came hand in hand with what has become my soul’s work: art therapy. In the fall I plan to attend Naropa University in Boulder, CO, where I will study Transpersonal Psychology with an emphasis in Art Therapy. Here in Chicago I have worked at Esperanza Community Services as arts facilitator and am involved in the You Are Loved artist collective.

Words of wisdom

I would say a couple of things:

1) Don’t get down on yourself when you reach a block as an artist. Even if you don’t “make” for days or even months, it always comes back.

2) Take your own advice. As an aspiring art therapist I try to make art as a way to sooth the soul, to look inside, or work through. When I don’t make art I feel hypocritical in a sense. I must practice what I preach. I must make art.
