Never let yourself fall into a comfort zone just because something starts to work well for you.

In her own words

I’m a recent east-coast transplant, and I’m currently living in Brooklyn after having grown up in Los Angeles. I’m pursuing a career as an illustrator. My subject matter broadly includes people, plants and animals. My love of nature contrasts my love of my urban surroundings, but I try to bring harmony to these elements in my work. Lately I’ve been expanding my interests to the mediums of pattern and handwritten type.

Words of advice

Never let yourself fall into a comfort zone just because something starts to work well for you. It’s tempting to keep repeating what we get praised for, but its important to push past that familiar thing into new territory. It keeps the work fresh and contemporary. I was fortunate to have a lot of instructors and peers that pushed me in this way, and I can never be grateful enough for that.

The Valley – Inspired by growing up in the San Fernando Valley

Taxis/tasso – Part of a series based on the novel 'The Crying of Lot 49'
